Jackie Conway
In 1980 I completed my foundation art course at Oxford Polytechnic. The following year I attended Bristol where I gained a BA Hons degree in Fine Art. Since then I have continued painting, drawing and printmaking. I taught life drawing on a voluntary basis at the East Oxford Community Centre and I have attended St Gregory’s School helping with the A’level art course.

I exhibited at the Old Fire Station, Oxford and the Zoology Department at Oxford University; I also held exhibitions at my studio. I completed several modules in Art History at the Oxford University Continuing Department of Education.

More recently my Etchings have been shown at the Said Business School and have been available at the Saunders Print shop on the High Street. I regularly show my prints at exhibitions with the Oxford Printmakers Co-Op, and I have also shown my watercolours at the John Radcliffe and the museum of Oxford. Recently I have shown images at Art Jericho also I have exhibited as a member of the Oxford Art Society. During Art Week I exhibited at the Christadelpian Hall. This year I am having an Exhibition at a private studio and am going to show my work at the John Radcliffe during Art Weeks. Some of my watercolours are being shown at Didcot.

In drawing and painting Oxford for the past seven years I have come to terms with perspective colour and drawing. I have been drawing and painting in Headington, Blackbird leys and the surrounding areas as well as the better known Oxford Colleges. From these I have produced larger scale images of Oxford in watercolour and now Oil and Etchings. I am also drawing and painting places further afield. I like to draw in the open and directly from the environment because you are bombarded with stimuli which you can use and refine. I also study and produce Still Life compositions and studies of People. I think you can gather far more information studying from life rather than from your imagination or from photographs. You can use these studies as a starting point.
