Society Open Exhibition 2011

Opening the Show
Jago thanked all members that had helped with the hanging and co-ordinating
the display. She then introduced Lady Bannister who formally opened the Show,
speaking warmly of the brilliant work on display. Moyra has been a member of
the Society for a considerable length of time and she spoke of her early years
at the Ruskin School of Art in Oxford.

Her time there started at the end of the Second World War in 1945 when rationing
books were very much in use. She was under eighteen years of age at the time
and was entitled to a free banana...but there were no bananas! Working in cold
studio conditions, working tirelessly with charcoal and pencils, Moyra treasured
her training and spoke of the joy of her life in art.

The Private View was very well attended by Members and guests and a warm
welcome was extended to Colin Dexter OBE, a treasured supporter of the Society,
and Sir Roger Bannister CBE.
